Poon Phol Building lies close to the Bang Yai Canal, once the key transportation artery connecting the port district at Saphan Hin to the town centre and Kathu District beyond. Built in the early 1990s, the building never fulfilled its commercial promise, hosting low-key retail activity and a more informal, nocturnal economy. In a neighbourhood in transition on the city fringe, it has been in relative disuse since 2000. The Biennale is a chance to reimagine the structure as a new kind of landmark, transmitting collective memory in the face of inexorable social, technological and environmental change.
