This house in Kathu’s historic centre was the first residence of Luang Amnat Nararak, a prominent Thai-Chinese businessman who later built one of the most stately mansions in Phuket Town. A key public figure of the early twentieth century, he reconciled long-standing political differences between Phuket’s two urban centres. Also remembered as the founder of the island’s famous Vegetarian Festival, he was the key benefactor of several important sites of worship including Saeng Tham Shrine (beside the former Bangkok Bank of Commerce), built to honour his family’s deities.
