Bége

This modern commercial building stands in the Downtown Market, constructed during the 1980s and 1990s. The land originally belonged to Phra Phisaisapphakit (also known as Tan Ma Sai), scion of a powerful mine-owning clan with close ties to Penang, and the founder of the Tandavanija family. Passed down through several generations, the land was eventually redeveloped in 1986. Like others in the neighbourhood, the “Bége” building has long housed small businesses. It is now leased by a young entrepreneur offering short-term accommodations, who is eager to share the space with the creative community.
