Pattanapong Montien, also known as ‘Oat Montien,’ is a multidisciplinary artist working across various media, including painting, writing, poetry, video, installation, and live performance. He is one of the artists actively promoting gender diversity in both the art world and Thai society. Oat Montien’s works often address gender identity issues through queerness, inviting viewers to adopt new perspectives and challenge norms and standards in art history and societal expectations, particularly concerning identity and gender norms. Moreover, in his work, the 'body' conveys protest and subversion against conventional notions of beauty and body standards, particularly towards groups perceived as ‘others’ in Thai society.
Montien's works have been exhibited both locally and internationally including institutions such as Schwules Museum (Berlin), Tom of Finland Foundation (Los Angeles), Bangkok Art and Cultural Center, Thailand Cultural Center, Patpong Museum, National Library of Thailand. His movies have also been screened at international festivals such as Circa Queer History Festival Presented by One Institute (Los Angeles), Southeast Asian Queer Cultural Festival, Bangkok Experimental Film Festival
Currently, Oat Montien is actively engaged in creating works with the LGBTQ+ community in Bangkok and has served as the curator of the Boddhisattava Gallery (since 2020), which is the first art space in Thailand exclusively dedicated to LGBTQ+ artists.
