The construction began in early 2022 on a 17-rai plot of land donated by businessman Thaveechai Aramrasmeekul. The first phase includes a four-and-a-half-story contemporary building, with black and white towers on the left and right sides, representing the two great artists of Chiang Rai, Thawan Duchanee of Baan Dam and Chalermchai Kositpipat of Wat Khao (Wat Rong Khun). It also has a permanent exhibition room for the works of these two artists. The Chiang Rai International Art Museum’s building has a floor area of approximately 3,000 square meters for rotating exhibitions, museum shops, cafes, and offices. The second phase will include a museum building with a theater and an auditorium. In addition, an artist village will be built on an area of approximately 10 rai for artists to use as studios for their artistic creation.
