Baan Suan Sompong
Baan Suan Sompong is located on the Phahonyothin Road in Chom Mok Kaew Subdistrict, Mae Lao District. It is a junction between Mueang Phan, Mae Suai, and Mueang Chiang Rai. It is also located at the intersection of Mae Suai Road - an important intersection for traveling to Chiang Mai and Lampang.
From a wide-open field, it has become a 50-years-old longan orchard. "Baan Suan Sompong" is the home of life and a studio of Sompong Sarasap, a contemporary artist. He is the founder of 9Art Gallery, a community center for artists in Chiang Rai. He had also been the leader of the Chiang Rai artists campaign in the "Chiang Rai’s Art Gallery Project" since 2004, which eventually led to the formation of the ArtBridgeChiangRai (ABCR), which currently has over 300 members.
Sompong Sarasap once remarked, "The environment is part of life and art that can express thoughts and beauty ideals. We are all born to take journeys. We do not own anything. Every part is connected... That is the true meaning of art."
"Baan Suan Sompong" is another interesting art space in Chiang Rai where visitors can experience artworks that are one with life and serve the artist's identity and era. They can also learn about art and the artist's way of life in depth.
