“Silent Cry from the borderlands”

"Silent Cry from the borderlands" is inspired by the unabating PM2.5 pollution crisis that has affected Chiang Rai and other northern regions for the past 10 years. The minuscule PM2.5 dust leads to cardiovascular and cancer diseases in the long term. The smoke particles come from stubble burning from agricultural lands, wildfires in the country, and transboundary haze from neighboring countries such as Laos and Myanmar.

As a border city, the borderless air pollution has serious impacts on the daily lives of the people of Chiang Rai. As witnesses, bystanders, and victims of this crisis, the Maeying Artists Collective aims to express the truth, hope, and dreams in their artworks, which can be seen as a trope of a record of history and current events that resonate with people all over the world. The Maeying Artists Collective is a small voice from a remote corner of the world, hoping for a better future where everyone has the right to breathe the cleaner air.
