Sla Khin Pavilion Opening J. Prommin’s World

Rural Thailand has been depicted through the lenses of photography and the strokes of painting. Many of these early photographs were captured by Western travelers eager to document their journeys through these exotic, uncharted landscapes. These imperial perspectives delved into the indigenous scenery and were transformed into the modern, scientific tools of viewfinders and films. What struck me when I first learned about Sla Khin, the local self-taught painter from Phan District, was how he skillfully used his camera to capture the essence of local lifestyles, ethnic communities, and the stunning landscapes of Chiang Rai Province. He then transformed these photographs into his artistic materials, creating beautiful paintings that vividly portray the region's scenic beauty. We cordially invite you to come and experience the captivating journeys and exquisite paintings of Sla Khin at the Sla Khin Pavilion, as part of the Thailand Biennale in Chiang Rai Province. The exhibition will run from December 9, 2023, to February 9, 2024. We look forward to sharing this enriching experience with you.
